Please find below a selection of Focus
talks from our student Tuesday evening meetings since October 2013.
Focus on Mark ('Meet the King')
Come face to face with the most powerful, compassionate, frightening, courageous, loving human being ever to have lived, and be taught to follow him in a way that utterly transforms our lives.
Focus on Daniel
Welcome to the University of Babylon. Jerusalem is in ruins, smashed by
Nebuchadnezzar's army in 587 BC... How are God's people going to cope
in exile? Is God still with them? Does God still rule? See how the Book
of Daniel shows us how the small-scale battles of Daniel and his friends in
Babylon 2,500 years ago model God's great plan for the whole of history.
It really is beyond your wildest dreams!
Focus on Romans ('Confident')
Where is true confidence found? How can i know ultimate security? What is the secret of lasting assurance? This term in Focus we're going to be studying the apostle Paul's letter to the Romans. Described as 'the greatest letter ever written', 'the profoundest book in existence', and 'an incomparable statement of Christian truth', the book of Romans opens up a sure road to a true, settled, permanent confidence whatever life throws your way.
Focus on 1 Corinthians ('Purely Spiritual')
They were an exciting church. They were a gifted church. But they were not the spiritual church they thought they were. This next couple of terms at Focus we'll be thinking about what it means to be Purely Spiritual from Paul’s first letter to the church in Corinth. We'll be taking in a whole range of topics - from intellectualism, freedom, and spiritual gifts to sex, relationships and celebrity culture - as the apostle Paul lays out the surprising shape of true spirituality.
Focus on 1 Peter ('The re-born Identity')
Our culture is obsessed with identity. People define themselves in all sorts of ways - the subject we study, the clothes we wear, the music we listen to, the particular relationship status we have, even down to the type of computer we use. In the letter of 1 Peter, however, we're told that our true identity is found in Christ. In the gospel Christians have been re-born into a new identity - an identity that has profound implications, not just for the way we see ourselves, but also for how we're to live in an alien and hostile world.
